For her Artist’s Choice Yayoi Kusama has selected Ishikawa Takuboki (1886–1912) was a Japanese poet and novelist reknowned for his tanka (traditional Japanese poems of thirty-one syllables). He lived in poverty and died of a chronic illness when only twenty-six years old. His first collected poems were published in 1905, followed by serial novels published in Tokyo newspapers and the first collection of tanka in 1910.
