High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! 153 Hilda is a large 170km asteroid in the outer Main belt. Because it is composed of primitive carbonaceous materials, it has a very dark surface. Hilda gives its name to an asteroid group called Hilda asteroids. It is not an asteroid family since the members are not physically related. Instead they are asteroids locked in a 2:3 orbital resonance with Jupiter. Jupiter goes around the Sun in 11.9 years while Hilda goes around the Sun in 7.9 years. This means that Jupiter goes around the Sun 2 times from every 3 times that Hilda goes around. There are over 1,100 objects known to be in a 2:3 resonance with Jupiter.
