It was the second season under head coach Joe Bach; this was his last season as head coach until the 1952-53 season. This was the first season that the Pirates finished with a .500 record at 6-6, and finished 2nd in the Eastern division, their highest placement in team history. The team did not qualify for the NFL Championship game.
