High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The 1937 Australian Grand Prix was an open-wheel motor race held on the roads in and around the South Australian town of Port Elliott on Boxing Day, December 26, 1936. Many contradictions exist about the race, firstly being held in 1936, rather than 1937. Secondly, the race has only become known as the 1937 Australian Grand Prix in more recent times. The race was known at the time as South Australian Centenary Grand Prix. The last Australian Grand Prix had been held some 21 months previously and no suceeding event was planned. Eventually the Australian Grand Prix would be revived in April, 1938. The stature of this race, the largest such race held in the three year gap saw it incorporated into the Australian Grand Prix folklore. Thirdly, despite the circuit being held around Port Elliott, the circuit is almost always referred to as Victor Harbour which is actually a few kilometres to the North along the Fleurieu Peninsula.
