High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The 1952 Australian Grand Prix was an open-wheel motor race held at Mount Panorama Circuit on April 14, 1952. The race had 43 starters. The race was held over 38 laps of the six kilometre circuit for at 235 kilometres. It was the seventeenth Australian Grand Prix and the first to feature a massed start rather than a handicap start which had long been the Australian Grand Prix tradition. It was also the first time a formula was applied to the race, potentially limiting the race to a certain type of car. The race was run to the Formula One regulations, which had been used for the 1950 and 1951 World Drivers' Championships. Specifically this meant a maximum engine capacity of 4.5 litre, or 1.5 litres if the engine carried a supercharger. This would be a one-off, the race returned to Formula Libre, which essentially places no restrictions on engines, in 1953. The only real change it made to the potential grid by running Formula One in 1952 is the Stan Jones driven Maybach Special had its supercharger removed and retuned to suit.
