Simpson becoming the first player in NFL history to rush for 2000 yards in a season. The Buffalo Bills finished in second place in the American Football Conference East Division and finished the 1973 NFL season with a record of 9 wins and 5 losses. This was the team`s second season with Lou Saban in his second tenure as head coach. Saban had previously led the team to the 1964 and 1965 American Football League championships. It was the first season that the team played in the new Rich Stadium, which has now been renamed Ralph Wilson Stadium, after several years using War Memorial Stadium as the team`s home stadium.
