The tournament concluded with the Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics defeating the Western Conference champion Phoenix Suns, four games to two in the NBA Finals; the series was highlighted by Game Five, a triple-overtime victory by the Celtics. The Celtics earned their 13th NBA championship, second in the "Dave Cowens era". Jo Jo White of the Celtics was named NBA Finals MVP.
