The tournament concluded with the Western Conference champion Seattle SuperSonics defeating the Eastern Conference champion Washington Bullets four games to one in the Finals. The Sonics earned their first (and as of 2011, only) NBA championship. Seattle`s Dennis Johnson won the NBA Finals MVP award.
