High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The 1989 Hungarian Grand Prix was a Formula One race held at Hungaroring on August 13, 1989. Nigel Mansell won the race for Ferrari after a marvellous overtaking manoevre on Ayrton Senna as the two came upon a back marker at the same time. It was his second victory for the team. Riccardo Patrese took pole position in his Williams, his first of the season, with usual polesitter Ayrton Senna alongside him on the front row. Alex Caffi was a surprise third in his Dallara, the Pirelli tyres offering better grip that the Goodyears used by most of the top teams. Thierry Boutsen's Williams was fourth, ahead of world championship leader Alain Prost's McLaren in fifth. Gerhard Berger qualified sixth in his Ferrari, while his team mate Nigel Mansell has a dismal qualifying and could only manage twelfth, complaining of traffic.
