High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The 1996 NHL Entry Draft was held at the Kiel Center (now called the Scottrade Center) in St. Louis, Missouri, on June 22, 1996. It has gone down in NHL history as perhaps the weakest draft class in league history, as few players selected have become star players in the NHL, save for Jean-Pierre Dumont, taken 3rd overall by the New York Islanders, Daniel Briere, drafted 24th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes, Tomas Kaberle, drafted 204th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Zdeno Chara, taken 56th, by the New York Islanders, and Sami Salo, plucked 239th overall by the Ottawa Senators.
