High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The NFL playoffs following the 2002 NFL season led up to Super Bowl XXXVII. These changes meant that a wild card team could no longer host a playoff game as a wild card during the first Wild Card round. Prior to the 2002-03 playoffs, a team could finish second in their division and host a playoff game by claiming the 4 seed as a wild card team. The new changes meant that the #4 seed would be rewarded to a division champion and not a wild card team. The only chance of a wild card team to host a game with today's playoff system would be for the #5 and #6 seeds to win their Wild Card games and then their Divisional playoff games making the #5 seed the host for the Conference Championship Game. This almost occurred during the 2005-06 playoffs when the Carolina Panthers and Washington Redskins advanced to the Divisional playoffs. The Panthers won at Chicago by a score of 29-21, but the Redskins could not hold up their end of the bargain for the Panthers to host the NFC Championship and lost at Seattle 20-10.
