The 2012 Maribor protests or Maribor uprising (Slovene: Mariborska vstaja) are a series of demonstrations, resistances and riots occurring in the city of Maribor, Slovenia, that began on 2 November 2012. Thousands of protesters from a variety of socio-economic and educational backgrounds demand the resignation of the mayor Franc Kangler, accused of corruption by the official Commission for the Prevention of Corruption of the Republic of Slovenia. Despite being predominantly peaceful in nature, the protests were not without violent clashes between security forces and protesters. In late November 2012, the protests have spread to cities and towns throughout the country, where the people are demanding resignations and prosecutions of politicians and other members of the "elite", accused of corruption.
