A L Bruce Estates was one of three largest estate owners in colonial Nyasaland, owning a large estate at Magomero in the Shire Highlands and two smaller ones. It was originally set up under Trust law for charitable work, but later became a company with a reputation for harsh exploitation. After almost three decades of losses, the company sold Magomero at a profit between 1949 and 1952 and was liquidated in 1959.
