Acanthurus auranticavus, is a tropical fish with the common names Orange-socket surgeonfish and Ring-tail surgeon. It was named by Randall in 1956. Acanthurus auranticavus live in schools which often include other types of fish. The species is distributed in coral reefs in the western-Indian Ocean, as well as the western Pacific, and the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,600 kilometres (1,600 mi) over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres (133,000 sq mi). The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in north-east Australia.
