Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Pale Shoulder (Acontia lucida) is a moth of the Noctuidae family. It is found in most of Europe, east to Turkey, Iran and India. It has also been recorded from Algeria. It is a rare migrant to the south coast of Great Britain. The wingspan is 26-30 mm. Adults are on wing in May and August in two generations. The larvae feed on Althaea officinalis, Convolvulus, Chenopodium and Taraxacum. The Noctuidae or owlet moths are a family of robustly-built moths that includes more than 35,000 known species out of possibly 100,000 total, in more than 4,200 genera. They constitute the largest family in the Lepidoptera. Their distribution is worldwide with about 1,450 species found in Europe. Most have drab forewings, although some have brightly coloured hindwings. There are usually few differences between the sexes. The overwhelming majority of noctuids fly at night and are almost invariably strongly attracted to light. Many are also attracted to sugar and nectar-rich flowers.
