The Isle of Wight, 1377. The age of chivalry still prevails. As Edward III of England passes away, all that stands between England and the might of Normandy is the tempestuous Channel and the brave men on the south coast. The Isle of Wight is exposed and vulnerable. In Affeton Manor, Sir Roger de Affeton lies dying. His only son, Robert, newly returned from war in France, finds the responsibility of running the estate thrust upon him. Robert soon makes an enemy of the powerful John de Kingston, only to fall in love with his bewitching daughter, Rachel. But Robert`s troubles are only just beginning. As French warships land on the beaches, intent on plunder, rape and arson, he must fight to save the Island from ruin - but will he survive the invasion to win both his love and his honour? Keith Dyer is an Islander. He was born at Totland Bay and spent his youth at Shanklin. He knows the island and its history well. He was educated at King James 1st Grammar School in Newport and Sandown Grammar School before going to Birmingham and Southampton universities, where he studied geology, geophysics and oceanography. He has now retired as Professor of Oceanography and lives in Somerset.
