Keith Dyer is an Islander. He was born at Totland Bay and spent his youth at Shanklin. He knows the island and its history well. He was educated at King James 1st Grammar School in Newport and Sandown Grammar School before going to Birmingham and Southampton universities, where he studied geology, geophysics and oceanography. He has now retired as Professor of Oceanography and lives in Somerset.
