Agkistrodon contortrix is a species of venomous snake found in North America, a member of the Crotalinae subfamily. Common names for the species include Copperhead and moccasin. The behaviour of Agkistrodon contortrix may lead to accidental encounters with humans. Five subspecies are currently recognized, including the nominate subspecies described here.
