It permits fleet operators (mainly Company car and vans and some HGV's) to fuel securely without having to carry cash or general credit cards, and provides the necessary accounting information to satisfy the details of recording Value Added Tax payments for the purpose of reclaiming tax from HM Revenue and Customs. Unlike many fuel cards, the Allstar card does not offer a commercial/discounted rate for fuel bought using it – instead the purchaser pays the price displayed at the fuelling station, but is perceived as having a commercial advantage over many other brands because it is usable at the great majority (95%+) of UK fuelling stations, which may outweigh cost issues in the opinion of company transport managers.
