High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! AltGr is a modifier key found on many computer keyboards and primarily used to type characters that are unusual for the locale of the keyboard layout, such as currency symbols and accented letters. It is effectively similar to the ? Shift key, which can be used in combination with a character-producing key to type a second-level character – typically the uppercase variant of a letter. With the help of the AltGr key, the same character key can be used to produce a third-level character (which may be visible, sometimes in a different color, on the front vertical face or the bottom right of the key top). Using AltGr and ? Shift together often provides access to even a fourth-level character. For example, on the US international keyboard layout, AltGr+S produces the German ligature sharp s (ss) and AltGr+? Shift+S produces the section sign (§).
