Amakudari – the ‘descent from heaven’ – can be seen as one of Japan’s modern mysteries. The reintake of already retired bureaucrats into high corporate positions within the private sector is a relic of the ‘old’ days developed out of the strong social bonds between Japan’s diverse society and it’s deeply rooted understanding of structure and governmental leadership.
