He has been capped for England at Under-21 level. Davies was born in Stockton-on-Tees and went to Northfield School in Billingham near Middlesbrough. He joined Middlesbrough as a thirteen year old and moved up the ranks of the club, achieving a place in the reserve side. He signed professional terms with October 2002 after impressing in the Under-19s and as captain of the reserve team.
