High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Antlia Dwarf is a dwarf spheroidal galaxy. It lies 4.3 Mly from Earth in the constellation Antlia. It is one of most distant members of the Local Group, and may in fact lie just beyond it. The galaxy contains stars of all ages, contains significant amounts of gas, and has experienced recent star formation. The Antlia Dwarf is believed to be tidally interacting with the small barred spiral galaxy, NGC 3109. The Antlia Dwarf is unusual among dwarf spheroidal galaxies in that it contains large amounts of neutral atomic hydrogen. It contains perhaps as much as 8 x105 solar masses of neutral hydrogen. Depending on the amount of dust the galaxy contains, its metallicity is between <[Fe/H]>=-2.41 and -1.90. The lower limit would make it one of the most metal-poor galaxies known, while the upper limit is typical of galaxies of its type.
