High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Ara X-1 may be the appropriate designation for the first extrasolar astronomical X-ray sources detected apparently in the constellation Ara by the X-ray observatory satellite Uhuru: 2U 1641-45 and 2U 1704-42. The observatory was attempting to detect Ara XR-1, which was first observed on April 25, 1965. Attempts using Ariel 5 placed the two Uhuru sources at 2S 1642-455 and 2S 1702-429. The region appears to be an H II region of a spectral type O5 star. Both sources designated 2U 1641-45 and 2U 1704-42 have been designated Ara X-1. Ara X-1 is considered a weak X-ray source.
