Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Ariocarpus agavoides (also called Tamaulipas Living Rock Cactus) is a species of plant in the Cactaceae family. It is endemic to Mexico. Its natural habitat is hot deserts. This species is free flowering in cultivation, but needs full sunlight and moderate fertilizer to flower regularly. Due to the diminuitive size of the plants typically only a single spectacular flower is produced by each plant. This plant prefers temperatures above 100 degrees in the summer, full sunlight, and regular watering, but make certain the plants dry completely between waterings. Water sparingly and infrequently in the winter when the plants tubercules start to shrink. Overwatering in the winter can result in the death of the plant. These species prefer clayey soils which contain a large percentage of sand in cultivation. Avoid organic soil mixes when cultivating plants in this genus.
