High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Astronomical coordinate systems are coordinate systems used in astronomy to describe the location of objects in the sky and in the universe. The most commonly occurring such systems are coordinate systems on the celestial sphere, but extragalactic coordinates systems are also important for describing more distant objects. In mathematics and its applications, a coordinate (or co-ordinate) system is a system for assigning an n-tuple of numbers, scalars or variables to each point in an n-dimensional space. This concept is part of the theory of manifolds.
