High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The authorship of the Bible refers to the issue of who wrote the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament, and the New Testament of the Christian Bible. It has been an area of ongoing debate since the documents themselves were written. The traditional view on authorship of the Old Testament comes from Jewish sources, mainly the Talmud which was composed between 200 and 500 AD, although drew on traditions that were much older. The traditional view on authorship of the New Testament mainly comes from the views of Christian church in the first centuries after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The traditional views for both books were accepted until the 18th century, when these views were increasingly questioned. Scholarship since then had varied drastically. In the 19th century there was a great deal of skepticism, although much of this moderated in the 20th century. In recent decades, scholars have focused less on authorship and more on the body of the works themselves. Scholarship, however, continues to evolve in a good number of directions.
