While most biblical books have traditional authors ascribed to them, biblical scholars regard few of the books in either the Jewish or Christian Bibles as being the work of the individuals whose names have been attached to them by tradition (the major exception being a number of the letters of Paul in the New Testament), and regard very few, if any, as entirely the work of a single individual. The following article outlines the conclusions of the majority of contemporary scholars, and notes also the conclusions of traditional scholarship, both Jewish and Christian.
