Automated Tissue Image Systems (ATIS) are computer-controlled automatic test equipment (ATE) systems used in histology to evaluate a stained tissue sample mounted on a bar-coded glass slide. After tissue has been fixed, then mounted on the slide, characterization of the specimen is based on detection of cellular traits (color, shape, and quantity) observed in micrographs made with high powered transmitted light microscopes.
