High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Barbourofelis fricki was a large lion-sized predator that lived approximately 6 million years in North America around the upper Miocene. B. fricki was a nimravid and probably resembled a saber toothed cat but is not related to true cats. It had retractable claws and saber tooth fangs with a small fringe on the jaw that would protect the fangs. The skeletal remains of B. fricki indicate it had a very muscular body similar to that of a bear or large cat and therefore did not chase prey over long distances but would ambush its quarry and use its weight and claws to bring down prey, holding it down until it could finish it off with a fatal bite.
