High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Bathurst class corvettes were a class of general purpose vessels produced in Australia during World War II. Originally classed as minesweepers, but widely referred to as corvettes the Bathurst class vessels fulfilled a broad anti-submarine and anti-mine role. 60 Bathurst class corvettes in total were commissioned; 36 for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), 20 for the British Admiralty (although ordered by the UK they were crewed by Australians and commissioned into the RAN), and 4 for the Indian Navy. All 60 ships were designed and constructed in Australia.
