He received his bachelor's degree in physics from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1957 and his PhD in mathematics from MIT in 1964. Computer science or computing science (sometimes abbreviated CS) is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation, and of practical techniques for their implementation and application in computer systems.
