High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! A blade is the flat part of a tool, weapon, or machine (such as a fan) that normally has a cutting edge and/or pointed end typically made of a flaking stone, such as flint, or metal, most recently steel. A blade is used to cut, stab, slash, chop, slice, thrust, position and/or place (an example of this is razor wire), or scrape (an example of this is an ink eraser). Blades are used for utility purposes (food, craft, and outdoors, primarily) and for combat. When used for food preparation, the main uses are slicing (cutting by drawing the blade across the object, applying light pressure) and chopping (cutting by pushing the blade through object), with some piercing (using the tip to cut through the surface). In combat, a blade may be used to slash (cut with the edge, generally in a swinging motion), stab (plunge the blade in, starting with the tip and proceeding as the blade enters more deeply), or throw/shoot (throwing a throwing knife so the point enters the target).
