He is best known for his work for the TV mini-series The Winds of War and War and Remembrance. Together, the film scores for these two movies constitute the longest film score ever written for a movie. Cobert is also known for his early work as the composer for the soap opera Dark Shadows and for composing the score for the 1972 TV movie The Night Stalker, together with The Night Strangler, which would become the pilots for the TV series Kolchak: The Night Stalker.
