Bolbitis heteroclita is one of two species of Bolbitis that are popular for use as aquarium plants. While it is easy to grow the related Bolbitis heteroclita as a fully-submersed species, it is more exacting to do so with B. heteroclita. This species, however, is easy to grow as a terrestrial or potted (emersed) plant. It is remarkable for the resemblance of the fronds of a certain size to poison ivy leaves. Some growers sell this under the invalid name Bolbitis asiatica.
