C1X is the unofficial name of the planned new standard for the C programming language. It is intended to replace the existing C standard, informally known as C99. The new standard is not yet finalized. The most recent working draft, N1494, was published in June 2010. C is one of the most popular programming languages of all time and there are very few computer architectures for which a C compiler does not exist. C has greatly influenced many other popular programming languages, most notably C++, which began as an extension to C.
