The Canadian Single Class Surface Combatant is the name given by naval observers for the expected replacement of the Iroquois-class destroyer and eventually replace the Halifax-class frigate in the period beginning 2016-2017. The replacement vessels would be somewhat larger than the existing Halifax-class frigate and presumably equipped with a new radar system and RIM-161 SM-3 in order to provide a wide-area air defence capability.
