High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! A carpenter pencil, carpentry pencil, or carpenter's pencil is a pencil that has a body with a rectangular or elliptical cross-section to stop it from rolling or blowing[1] away. Carpenter pencils offer a better grip than a standard pencil.[citation needed] They have a rectangular or elliptical core which allows thin or thick lines to be drawn by simply rotating the pencil. Thin lines are required for high precision markings, and when it is important to erase them later. However sometimes thick markings are needed to mark on a rough, coarse surface[2]. The lead must also be strong enough to withstand stress of marking on such surfaces.
