High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Cesare Battisti is a former member of the Armed Proletarians for Communism, a terrorist group which supported violent revolution during the period known as "anni di piombo", in which Italy was suffering from harsh terrorist attacks by both far left and far right organizations. He later became a fiction author, writing 15 books. Battisti was convicted to life sentence in his homeland for a total of 36 charges, including participation on four murders. First sentenced for 12 years under the charge of participating in an armed group, he fled to France, where he was protected by the Mitterrand doctrine. Later he was tried in absentia and sentenced to life in prison for the four murders. After the de facto repeal of the Mitterrand doctrine in 2002, he fled to Brazil to avoid a possible extradition.
