High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Clontarf (Irish: Cluain Tarbh) is a coastal suburb on the northside of Dublin, in Ireland. It is most famous for giving the name to the Battle of Clontarf in 1014, in which Brian Boru, High King of Ireland, defeated the Vikings of Dublin and their allies, the Irish of Leinster. This battle, which extended to districts over several miles, is seen as marking an end to the Irish-Viking Wars. The Irish version of the suburb name (Cluain Tarbh) literally means "The meadow of the bull", this literal translation explains the prevalence of the word "bull" in a number of location names within the suburb.
