Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Colchicum balansae is a variable species producing white to rosy-purple flowers in fall. The flowers are borne low to the ground, but can come from bulbs 50cm (20") below the soil surface. The leaves are absent at flowering time, and start growing in the spring and can reach up to 30cm (12") long. This species is native to parts of Turkey and the Greek island of Rhodes. Liliales is an order of monocotyledonous flowering plants. This order of necessity includes the family Liliaceae, but both the family and the order have had a widely disputed history, with the circumscription varying greatly from one taxonomist to another. Well known plants from the order include Lilium (lily), tulip, the North American wildflower Trillium, and greenbrier.
