President George W. Bush's foreign policies have raised a great deal of controversy in the early years of the 21st century. An example of this is the reinstating of the Mexico City Policy, which limits US development funding for NGOs that either perform or promote abortion. The policy has many effects on women and on the operation of organisations that work with reproductive issues and women's health. This book offers an analysis of the aspects of control that the policy exerts at different levels. The Mexico City Policy is analysed from the viewpoints of development policies and women's role in them, bio-politics of the population and the individual level of bodily integrity. These perspectives offer a multilevel view on the limiting aspects of the policy. Based on the detailed analysis, it is clear that the Mexico City Policy aims to affect women's agency and control their lives and bodies. The study offers a feminist perspective on development policies and international abortion politics. It presents fresh ideas for those interested in gender aspects of international politics and reproductive rights.
