The Cretan Date Palm (Phoenix theophrastii) is a small palm native to the eastern Mediterranean region, with a very restricted distribution confined in southern Greece to a few sites as in Crete island and especially in Vai at the Lasithi Prefecture, in Ayios Nikitas at Heraklion Prefecture and last in Preveli gorge and some in Souda (another same named village at the south coasts of Crete) both at Rethymnon Prefecture.
