Critical thinking, encompassing the processes of deductive and inductive reasoning, analysis of arguments, and evaluation, is now a much more important component of a superior education. This book is designed to help readers acquire some of the skills either in or outside of a classroom. In this book, critical thinking is defined in its broadest sense. It includes not only those subjects that are often taught in an elementary-level philosophy or composition course such as logic and analysis of arguments, but also subjects such as effective listening, oral and written communications, teaming, metacognition, creative thinking, and information literacy. The chapters are arranged into three sections: critical thinking, communications, and a personal critical thinking plan. The critical thinking section contains chapters on logic, developing and analyzing arguments, information literacy, and creative thinking. The communications section covers vocabulary, writing, speaking, listening and team skills. The last section is dedicated to helping the reader develop a critical thinking plan.
