Criticism of Albert Einstein`s theory of relativity was mainly expressed in the early years after its publication on a scientific, pseudoscientific, philosophical, or ideological basis. Reasons for criticism were, for example, alternative theories, rejection of the abstract-mathematical method, misunderstandings, and alleged errors in the theory. Besides those reasons, antisemitism occasionally played a role as well. Even today there are some critics of relativity (sometimes called "anti-relativists"), however, their views are not taken seriously by the scientific community, since the theory of relativity is considered to be self-consistent, is verified by many experimental verifications, and serves as the basis of many successful theories such as quantum electrodynamics.
