High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! DNA Encoded Chemical Libraries are a new technology for the synthesis and screening of collections of chemical compounds of unprecedented size and quality. DEL represents an advance in medicinal chemistry which bridges the fields of combinatorial chemistry and molecular biology. The driving force for the development of DEL technology is to improve and streamline the drug discovery process in particular early phase discovery activities such as target validation and hit discovery. DEL technology involves the conjugation of chemical compounds or building blocks to short DNA fragments that serve as identification bar codes and in some cases also direct and control the chemical synthesis. The technique, in principle, enables the mass creation and interrogation of libraries via affinity selection, typically on an immobilized protein target.
