It is run by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. Elyria Catholic was built in 1949 and since then has graduated more than 7,500 young men and women. A newly added physical education complex was completed in 2007 along with an economics lab. Elyria Catholic is the only Catholic high school found in Lorain County.
