Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Etmopteridae is a family of sharks in the order Squaliformes, commonly known as lantern sharks. Their name comes from the presence of light-producing photophores on their bodies. The members of this family are small, under 90 cm (35 in) long, and are found in deep waters worldwide. Squaliformes is an order of sharks that includes about 80 species in seven families. Members of the order have two dorsal fins, which usually possess spines, no anal fin or nictitating membrane, and five gill slits.
