High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Exotic Zoology is the title of a book by Willy Ley, a scientist whose name is normally associated with rockets, missiles and space travel. In the foreword he explains that his interest in writing a book about animals, extinct, rare, or unknown can be traced back to his youth. He was never quite sure whether his studies would earn him the title of "zoologist" or "geologist," but he kept up his exploratory researches, looking especially into such corners as others had neglected. When he was nineteen he read Professor Hermann Oberth's work "The Rocket into Interplanetary Space" which helped launch his career in rocketry. He says that in spite of all this, and all that has happened since, he still likes to take one or several days off from rockets "and look at dodos, man-eating trees, or just a plain old mammoth skeleton." The book as a whole is the outcome of a lifetime of interest, of collecting material, of "exploring."
