The country`s post-independence activities have not been so rosy though, coups and economic hardships have had their toll on the fortunes of the country. Though the country is endowed with a lot of natural resources, their sale to other countries has not imparted greatly on the fortunes of the land. Things are now looking brighter for the country since it return to democratic rule in 1992. Successive governments since then have done a lot to improve the country`s lot.
